Cleanings
Our hygienists at Cheney Family Dental provide gentle, thorough cleanings. They are trained to do both routine dental cleanings and treat periodontal disease. During your visit, they will also check the health of your gum tissue, perform an oral cancer exam, and provide education on how to keep your whole mouth healthy and happy.
Fillings and Sealants
Dr. Kara primarily uses mercury-free tooth colored fillings to restore smaller areas of tooth decay. There are other types of filling materials available and we will choose the most suitable option for each specific case. Decay is extremely common but fortunately the fillings we use to fix them have a high success rate.
Sealants are a thin material placed in the deep grooves of teeth to help prevent cavity formation in these areas. We typically recommend these for children and have seen many of our adult patients still have them from their childhood years.
Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges are effective restorations when teeth are lost or severely damaged. We typically use a tooth colored material that is stronger than a natural tooth so they can withstand the forces used to chew for many years to come.
Root Canal Treatment
Teeth that have deep decay or unexpected injuries may require root canal treatment. This treatment removes the nerve inside a tooth and any accompanying pain/infection. Completing root canal treatment allows you to keep your tooth and remove a potentially dangerous source of pain and/or infection. If left untreated, it is possible the tooth will be lost.
Extractions
Sometimes tooth loss is inevitable despite our best efforts to educate our patients and save every tooth. If you do have to lose a tooth (or more than one) there are replacement options we will likely discuss with you.
Implants
Implants are generally the best option to replace a single missing tooth. While Dr. Kara does not yet place implants she does restore them. If this is something you may be interested in she will likely recommend you see one of the talented specialists she works closely with to learn more about the entire process.
Partial and Complete Dentures
Dentures are usually the most affordable way to restore many missing teeth. We can make partial dentures with or without metal to replace teeth if we have enough healthy teeth and bone/gum health to support that option long term. We also make complete dentures for our patients who are missing all of their teeth.
If you are interested in an implant supported denture to get more stability we are happy to discuss this more.
Pediatrics
We love to see kids in our office. Most often if dental treatment is recommended for our younger patients we do recommend the use of nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) to make it a more tolerable experience for them.
Dr. Kara strongly believes good dental experiences begin in childhood so we do all we can to establish good habits for our kids in the office!
Invisalign®
Invisalign is arguably the best system of clear dental aligners available that can be worn to straighten teeth. These clear aligners are custom made by software that uses models and photos of your teeth. Dr. Kara will help design each case she accepts to achieve optimal results.
Each aligner is typically worn for 7 days before switching to the next pair. Total treatment time greatly varies on presentation and complexity of each patient case. However, if your case is very complex it is likely Dr. Kara will recommend you seek treatment with one of our trusted local orthodontists.
Emergency Treatment
We understand dental emergencies happen unexpectedly. We do our best to accommodate our patients that experience dental trauma or tooth pain.
Botox
While more widely known for its use to decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, there are therapeutic benefits of Botox for dental patients. It can be recommended to reduce migraine symptoms and also help patients stop clenching and grinding. This is especially useful for patients that have broken teeth in the past.
